Regional Policy Advocacy
Client: Northwest & Intermountain Power Producers Coalition
2002 - Ongoing
High-profile advocacy for competitive power in difficult policy and market environment.
While independent power producers had contributed to the Northwest energy market for years, it was not until September 2002 that generators organized to collectively represent their interests. Organized initially as the Northwest Independent Power Producers Coalition ("Independent" became "Intermountain" when the group expanded into Idaho) has actively promoted the competitive power paradigm ever since.
Robert Kahn has served NIPPC's Executive Director since its inception. In that role, he has put the Coalition on the map. NIPPC is active in representing competitive power before such policy venues as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), regional utility regulatory commissions and state legislatures, the Bonneville Power Administration and the Northwest Power & Conservation Council. The Coalition is also active in education and outreach epitomized by its annual meeting at Alderbrook each September. The meeting is widely recognized as a uniquely informative gathering.
